Why do EVs wear out tires faster than gas-powered cars?
Electric vehicles are heavier than gas-powered vehicles. That extra weight puts more pressure on your tires and wears them down faster. Choosing the right tires helps them last longer and keeps you safe.
According to our Treadwell data, electric vehicles wear out tread up to 25% faster than gas- and diesel-powered cars when tested with the same driver, tires, and location. In this example, the same tire would give an EV up to 32,000 miles of tire life, while a gas or diesel car would get up to 42,000 miles.

What is torque?
When you press the pedal in an EV, the power goes straight to the wheels. That quick burst of energy is called torque. It helps you accelerate faster, but it also puts a lot of pressure on your tires right away. If the tires are not built to handle it, they can wear unevenly or lose traction. EV-specific tires are made to grip the road and keep you in control.

WHAT IS REGENERATIVE BRAKING?
Some electric vehicles slow down by using the motor instead of just the brakes. This is called regenerative braking. It helps charge the battery when you take your foot off the pedal, but it also adds extra stress to your tires, which can make them wear out faster over time.
