What To Do With Old Tires

Old tires are the epitome of side-of-the-road refuse and trash. They're unsightly and an environmental hazard, so finding ways to dispose and recycle tires is a top priority at America's Tire.

Since you need new tires, why not shop the largest inventory of affordable and quality tires in the industry?

Tire Recycling, the America's Tire Way

We do our best to minimize tire waste. When it's time to replace your tires, we take every possible step to ensure tires are recycled properly. We also actively mitigate needless tire waste by educating our customers on prolonging tire life.

Unfortunately, tires don't break down easily. Tires from years ago could very well still be intact and take up space in someone's yard, creating an ideal home for rodents, mosquitos and other pests.

Tire recycling is by far the best approach when it comes to reducing the overall amount of scrap tires in our communities.

Thanks to advancements in technology, updated laws that punish dumping, and state-mandated disposal fees, the incidence of illegally dumped tires has significantly decreased.

We take tire disposal seriously. We ensure that all discarded tires, whether they're damaged or at the end of their life, are handed to a third-party tire recycling collections operation. There, the steel bands that make up the construction of a tire are separated from the rubber.

From here, these components are individually recycled or repurposed, minimizing as much waste and pollution as possible in the process.

Where To Take Old Tires

Are you thinking, "Where on earth is there tire recycling near me?" The answer is: America's Tire. If they're still on your vehicle and in drivable condition, you can bring them to your closest America's Tire location. If your tires are reasonably new and in good condition, we may be able to give you credit toward a new tire purchase. If not, then we can safely dispose of them for you.

We'll get you taken care of when it comes to picking out new tires and will safely and responsibly ensure your old tires are recycled following local laws.

Keep in mind that, unfortunately, there are some fees involved with recycling tires. It's better to pay these than to litter, cause damage to our planet, clutter our communities, or provide homes for eager pests.

Creative Uses for Old Tires

There are multitudes of innovative (and fun) craft and decoration ideas for repurposing old tires. No matter what you choose to do, first, clean your tires. Whether you plan to use spray paint or eventually cover the tire with cloth or twine, it's always a good idea to get any dirt and grime off of a tire, especially if it has been used on the road.

Some of our favorite ideas for repurposed tires include:

  • Dog beds
  • Coffee/side tables
  • Planters and gardening applications
  • Ottoman and footrests
  • Tire swings

What not to do with old tires

Never dump your old tires into a body of water, or attempt to burn them. Tire compounds include toxic chemicals that, if inhaled, are harmful to both living beings and also the environment. They also take a long time to cool down once hot enough to burn. Likewise, the same chemicals can be transported through the water and contaminate the soil and water source.

If you have a tire blowout (and it’s safe to do so), try to collect the scraps of tire that may have flown off.

From here, we can help you get your spare changed out and returned or secured to wherever it belongs on your vehicle.

America's Tire is the place for tires at all stages of life. Our employees are happy to help answer any questions you might have about tire recycling or replacement. We can get you back on the road in no time!
