National Tire Safety Week 2025

a red background with an image of a tire, a penny and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System symbol on it with the words '2025 National Tire Safety Week' across the middle in white letters.

America's Tire always believes: safety first!

The U.S. Tire Manufacturer’s Association (or USMTA), the national trade association for tire manufacturers, hosts an annual initiative to educate motorists on safety, maintenance, and proper care for tires.

BOOK A FREE TIRE INSPECTION

This year’s National Tire Safety Week 2025 is from June 30 to July 4. National Tire Safety Week is a great opportunity to get everyone on the same page on safety standards and protocols, promoting awareness, and education for safe driving habits and tips.

Road trips are still a popular vacation option for Americans (over 3.3 trillion miles logged in 2024 alone according to the Federal Highway Administration!), so make sure your ride is #RoadReady! You can get a good start by checking out our Road Trip Checklist for 2025!

You can also check out our recommendations for the best tires for road trips for 2025!

TIRE SAFETY TIPS

Tire safety is all about tire maintenance.

Well-maintained tires are safe tires. They’re critical components for keeping your vehicle safe. And keeping them in good condition helps prevent accidents (for you and other motorists) and the inconvenience of a flat or unexpected repair/replacement. Your tires help control your vehicle and are the only thing separating it from the road. It’s important to keep them as healthy as possible.

Here are our and USTMA’s top tips (play your P.A.R.T.) for getting the most out of your tires and keeping them in safe working condition:

#1: PRESSURE

You should check your tire air pressure at least once a month and again before long trips. Summer heat can dramatically affect tire pressure; don’t just rely on your TPMS system.

Learn how to check your own tire pressure, or swing by your local store for a free tire pressure check! You can also make an appointment!

#2: ALIGNMENT

When your suspension goes out of alignment, it causes irregular tire wear and steering inconsistencies.

It’s important to know how alignment settings can affect your tires. If you’re seeing irregular tire treadwear, make an appointment with us to check out possible causes.

Did you know that select America's Tire stores now offer alignments?

#3: ROTATE YOUR TIRES

You should rotate your tires every 6,000 miles, or earlier if you see uneven wear. Frequent rotations help prevent uneven treadwear and prolong your tire’s service life.

#4: TREAD DEPTH

Tread depth is super-important for grip, which keeps you and your tires firmly planted on the road. Your tread is also directly related to your vehicle’s stopping power.

There are a number of ways to check your tire’s tread depth. A popular one is called the penny test: Stick a penny with Lincoln’s head upside-down in a tread groove. If you can see his head, it’s time to replace your tire! America's Tire recommends replacing your tires when they are worn down to 4/32” or below.

You can also always count on us to check your tires to make sure they’re good to go.

#5: BOOK AND BUY ONLINE TO SAVE TIME

ROAD TRIP SAFETY

There are a few other things you can do to stay safe on the road this summer. No matter the length your drive, from the work commute to the grocery run to a road trip, we always encourage you to:

KNOW YOUR TIRE’S AGE

At America's Tire, we recommend replacing any tire that’s 6 years old or older. Older tires are at a higher risk for failure than newer ones. As rubber ages, it becomes hard and brittle. This loss of elasticity and strength can cause failure.

You can check the age of your tire by looking at the DOT number stamped on its sidewall. Find the last four numbers following the DOT number, which indicate the week and year of manufacture. The first two numbers represent the week, and the last two represent the year.

For example, DOTXXXXXXX3815 means that the tire was made during the 38th week of 2015.

CHECK YOUR TRUNK

Many new vehicles lack a spare tire. This is due to the need to reduce extra weight and increase overall efficiency, an increasing demand in today’s vehicle market.

Instead, check your trunk and you may find tire inflation kits and/or a tire change kit. Make sure you know what tools you have on hand in case of emergencies, including roadside service plans such as AAA.

Also, make sure you understand how to use emergency tools like a jack, jumper cables, and tire iron.
