Nokian Encompass AW01 is built with a Dual Zone asymmetrical tread design. This two-sided tread pattern features a snow-focused inside area that uses sipes, lateral notches and sipe activators, helping you stay in control on powder-coated roads.
Meanwhile, the outside of the tread design is ready for the wetter seasons. Wind and rain can’t slow you down thanks to the Encompass AW01’s zigzag circumferential grooves. For even more confidence on slick streets, these grooves have polished surfaces that accelerate water flow, giving you even more control on water-logged roads.
Other performance features of the Encompass AW01 include:
- 3D Centipede Sipes that open up to maximize contact with your driving surface, helping you stay secure on the road no matter how bad the weather gets.

Outback
Paid over $800 for these tires. I’ve put 26,000 miles on them. The warrantee is for 60,000 miles. They fail tread depth now with less than half of warranty life. I was offered $100 off on a new set. I don’t understand how this can be so lame.

Great tires, I've used them mostly on day to day commutes but also through both winter and summer seasons. During winter they performed surprisingly well on ice and snow, not as well as a dedicated snow tire but well enough that I still felt confident and safe. They didn't seem to take a major hit in tread depth during the hot summer months, which was surprising for a tire that performed well in the snow. I also have used them on loose gravel/dirt roads and they performed excellently. I've tried a lot of tires and honestly these seem to be a really great medium that can do a lot of things pretty well. My gas mileage remained nearly identical to a set of regular all season tires too. Highly recommended and will continue to purchase these in the future.

This is the second set I've bought...I got them for my car earlier, then my husband needed tires for his used car. He loves them as much as I love mine! They handle extremely well in all kinds of conditions, from dry pavement, to wet, to slow. When we're ready for new tires on any of our cars we'll be buying a new set of these exact tires!
