Eight lug rims are very common on larger SUVs and trucks, typically three quarter and one ton trucks. They offer the greater strength required of heavier, higher torque vehicles, especially for towing, hauling, and off-road capability. More lugs are available to evenly distribute weight across the wheel, helping to reduce stress on both lugs and wheel itself.

8 LUG CHEVY WHEELS
Depending on the model and year, Chevy trucks typically use either 6x139.7 or 8x6.5. Newer models may use a 8x4.25 (8x180mm) 8 lug bolt pattern. In particular, 8 lug wheel sizes are used for 2500 and 3500 series Chevy trucks.
General Motors (GM) changed to the newer size in 2012. Some 1500 series heavy duty trucks also came with an 8 lug application.
