Wheel Torque FAQ:
A rotational force given in foot-pounds (ft-lbs), wheel torque measures lug nut tightness. And it's critical for a safe wheel installation. Every vehicle has its own torque requirements. Find yours above!
After hand-installing your lug nuts, tighten them to your vehicle's torque specs using a torque wrench, a tool designed to measure rotational force. Follow the tightening and loosening pattern shown below. Be careful to tighten to the manufacturer's specifications.
See the diagrams below for the tightening and loosening patterns for four, five, six, and eight-lug wheels:
Lug nuts that are improperly or incorrectly tightened may cause the wheels to become loose or come off.
Applying torque evenly across the wheel promotes wheel centering and evens the stress shared by all lug nuts and studs.
After installing your wheels and properly torquing the lugs yourself, please stop by and we will quickly check the torque for you free of charge!
