WHAT TRIM IS MY CAR?

Finding the trim of your car is pretty easy: it is generally displayed as a sticker, raised lettering, or badge on the tailgate or trunk.

You can also find your vehicle’s trim and tire size by your VIN (vehicle identification number) using a VIN recorder tool. Sometimes it is listed on your vehicle’s placard on the inside door jamb of your driver’s side door.

Trim refers to the options package equipped on your vehicle. Vehicles are manufactured and sold according to the value of the options package. These are marked with letters or numbers following your vehicle model, such as DX, EX, ECO, FX, Hybrid, LX, LTD, PRO, or Sport, to name a few. Other numerical or single-letter additions can be added to your model name.

Sometimes people refer to your vehicle’s trim as your “tire trim” but original equipment tires often are dependent upon the vehicle trim.

Your trim has a lot to do with what tire or wheel size your vehicle needs. Which tires your vehicle comes equipped with can vary significantly depending on year, make, model, and trim level.

WHAT IS MY VEHICLE ASSEMBLY?

Your vehicle assembly refers to the measurements of your wheels and tires, sometimes called wheel and tire assembly. These are the exact measurements of your wheels and tires straight from the factory. There often needs to be a distinction between wheel and tire sizes due to the demand for different wheel designs and sizes.

Generally, this information is most specific when it comes to your tire size; section width, aspect ratio and wheel size.

If you don’t know your tire size, you can find it on the sidewall of your current tires. Snap a photo or write it down and keep it safe. Tire sizing can also be found on your vehicle’s placard (a sticker with vehicle information) in the door jamb of the driver’s side door.

You can compare the numbers from the manufacturer’s vehicle placard with the current tires. If you aren’t the original vehicle owner, this is a good way of checking if previous owners changed the tire size.
